An archive of work that became institutions.

Gregg Garner spent close to thirty years building an unlikely assortment of institutions and ventures: a nonprofit organization founded in a California college town, a Bible college that opened with twelve students in a rented office park, a K-12 school that started like an early American farmhouse school, a nonprofit arts organization, a “groove-rock” pop band that toured four continents, ten original plays and musicals, and more than two dozen companies.

None of it happened the way a résumé would suggest; like jazz, it was a combination of structure and improvisation. Garner has always been a long-range strategist, the kind who sets a target years out and reverse-engineers the path to it, publishing five-year plans and letting them play out while improvising how to make them work in real time. What looks, from the outside, like a string of happy accidents was really a matter of prepared timing combined with capable management.

A touring band's income covered the global development expeditions he had already resolved to fund. Dorm-room Bible studies became the first foothold of an international development organization he had already committed himself to building. Even the accident that ended his touring career in 2011 did not invent the construction company, the staffing company, the media company, or the birth services company his wife founded and he helped build; it opened the calendar to implement a plan Garner had already devised eight years earlier, that commercial ventures would fund what came next.

This archive exists because much of that record and even more was at risk of disappearing. It documents a survey of what Garner founded, taught, wrote, produced, and led between 1996 and 2025, and it credits some of the people who built alongside him. It is a historical record, not a current governance page. The organizations named here, a Bible college, a K-12 school, a nonprofit arts organization, and more than two dozen businesses, were and remain separate legal entities, each with its own board, tax filings, and leadership; documenting their shared history is not a claim that they operated as one enterprise, and it is not a description of who leads them now.

FIVE DEFINING PILLARS

Education. Garner founded and led a Bible college and a K-12 school, each grown from a small founding class into an independently accredited institution serving hundreds of students.

International Development. Garner founded Global Outreach Developments in 1996 on the premise that infrastructure fails without people capable of sustaining it. Over three decades the organization's programs reached communities in more than a dozen U.S. states and eleven international destinations, across five distinct regions of the world; those programs, independent of him today, continue serving their local communities and carrying that international development work forward.

Community Service. Weekly service days, summer internships, neighborhood redevelopment, and youth programming were not occasional projects. They were the calendar the organizations ran on, drawing hundreds of graduates and interns and thousands of program participants over three decades, around the world.

Arts and Media. As a singer-songwriter, playwright, and artistic director, Garner released four studio albums, wrote four full-length plays and musicals and six one-acts, founded a nonprofit arts organization, and served as an executive producer on a PBS documentary.

Entrepreneurship. After a 2011 accident interrupted his touring career, Garner built more than two dozen companies across construction, health care, hospitality, media, and professional services, work he describes as an effort to create jobs, give employees an opportunity to develop real-world skills beneficial to community development, and generate revenue for philanthropic work.

Cumulative figures, drawn from three decades of varied programs rather than any single year, include thousands of full-time, part-time, and seasonal jobs; hundreds of graduates and interns; thousands of program participants; and tens of thousands of families reached or served.
